I offer a range of editing and proofreading options for self-publishing authors of fiction and non-fiction eBooks. If you have a project that does not fall into any of the categories below, please contact me for more information and a quote.
I was born in England, but I have worked and resided in the United States for several years. As such I offer editing in both British and American English.
The services I currently offer are:
Proofreading (single pass)
This is aimed towards authors who have already had a copy edit or have thoroughly edited their own work. A proofread will pick up on any remaining grammar errors, punctuation errors, typos or misspelled words, and any words which are out of context or inconsistent. This is usually the last step before publication.
Rate: $0.60/100 words (fiction)
$0.70/100 words (non-fiction)
Copy editing (single pass)
This is aimed towards authors who want a thorough edit of their work for style, grammar, punctuation and language. A copy edit will pick up on any grammar errors, punctuation errors, typos or misspelled words, and any words which are out of context or inconsistent. It will also include modification of any awkward sentences or language and notification of any inconsistencies in plot, language or style.
Rate: $0.75/100 words (fiction)
$0.85/100 words (non-fiction)
Copy editing and proofreading package (two passes)
This is aimed towards authors who want to ensure their work is as clean as possible. This includes both a copy edit and a proofread done back to back. It will take a little longer than a single pass, but it's a cost-effective and time-effective option for authors who want both a copy edit and a proofread.
Rate: $1.15/100 words (fiction)
$1.25/100 words (non-fiction)
Content editing (single pass)
This is aimed towards authors who want feedback on their plot, characters and story. This includes feedback on a novel’s strengths and weaknesses, any inconsistencies in plot or characterisation, and suggestions for improvements to the story as a whole. A content edit does not include any corrections to grammar, punctuation or spelling. It usually comes before a copy edit.
Rate: $0.65/100 words (fiction)
I offer a free 1,000 word sample edit to new potential clients.
Although it is uncommon for me to deviate from these rates, I reserve the right to charge as I see fit on a project-by-project basis depending on topic, time, research and other details specified by the client. I also reserve the right to accept or reject projects as I see fit.
